Finding the Good Stuff in Our Daily Lives
Say cheese! This week I've been continuing to experiment with photo / video journaling using the 1 second everyday app (and no, I didn't take a pic of the cicadas - which are almost gone btw - happy dance). In my quest to use the app for the entire month of June, I've made a few interesting discoveries along the way.
The first is that it's hard to REMEMBER to snap a picture everyday. Getting into the groove of a new habit takes time and triggers. I finally set up a phone reminder so that I can put my radar up for moments that I want to capture. The older I get the more reminders I need for new habits!
The second thing is that this experiment has reminded me of how much of the good stuff exists in the ordinary. Finding those pockets of beauty, connection, wonder, and awe isn't easy when we're busy, but when we start looking around - wow - delight is everywhere in the simple things.
Elevating the everyday is a skill worth practicing and snapping a pic a day (a pic just for me, not for social media) has been a good reminder that we can usually find some treasure in our daily lives if we're willing to go on the hunt.
