What Do You Need to Remember This Week?
Last week I misplaced my wedding rings and the 12+ hours it took to find them were NOT FUN. A big thank you to daughter Carli who found them in the inner workings of our reclining chairs in the basement (which Brian and I had both looked through earlier in the day with no success).
She and I celebrated when she found them, AND I recommitted right then and there to not do things so mindlessly – like taking the rings off during movie night and placing them on the arm of my chair.
I already had 4 designated spots in my house that the rings HAVE to go in if they aren’t on my finger, but I obviously didn’t follow my own system. That’s how I knew they were lost.
Thankfully, the story ended happily, but it made me think about how temporary lapses in what we already know can cause us a lot of misery. Not just when it comes to physical things like keeping track of glasses, jewelry, etc., but how we disregard what we already know internally and wonder why our days aren’t brighter.
Here are some of the things I have to keep reminding myself of:
a few minutes of rest and relaxation drops frustration levels by 1000%
my job to make sure I’m mostly ok, not to rescue or fix others
breathing makes everything better – wow, I hold my breath a lot!
doing something for the sheer joy of it is reason enough
each day is an opportunity to have a good day, even when realities aren’t ideal
I've noticed that forgetfulness and mindlessness increase when I'm:
overly busy with no whitespace
listening too much to the voice in my head that can be not so friendly
not doing restful and restorative activities on a regular basis
so excited about movie popcorn and peanut M&Ms that I don’t take the time to keep track of rings : )
What is it that you already know that you sometimes forget? I hope you remember it this week and have a bright week!
